Le président du Congrès juif mondial, l’ambassadeur Ronald S. Lauder, a réagi à l’adoption de deux récentes résolutions anti-israéliennes par l’Assemblée de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé et le Conseil des droits de l’homme des Nations unies, les qualifiant de ” honteuses ” et déclarant qu’elles entachent la réputation des Nations unies et des organes qui opèrent sous leurs auspices.

Dans une déclaration faisant suite aux votes consécutifs à Genève la semaine dernière, l’Amb. Lauder a déclaré :

“Certains États membres de l’ONU semblent croire qu’en disculpant le Hamas et en déformant les faits, ils gagneront des points politiques faciles contre Israël. Les vrais perdants, bien sûr, sont les Palestiniens de Gaza, cyniquement pris en otage par une organisation terroriste qui prétend parler en leur nom. Une fois de plus, la vérité est victime d’une mascarade éhontée.

“Pour les pays qui défendent cet agenda, le mensonge n’est évidemment pas un péché – quelles qu’en soient les conséquences, et même si la réputation de l’ONU est une fois de plus salie. Nous sommes tous passés par là auparavant.”

Ce vote à Genève, lors d’une session spéciale du Conseil des droits de l’homme de l’ONU, portait sur une résolution unilatérale appelant à la création d’une commission d’enquête sur le conflit, dont la durée de vie est illimitée, et ne mentionnait pas une seule fois le Hamas dans le document. La résolution a été adoptée par un vote de 24 oui, 9 non et 14 abstentions. La session extraordinaire est la neuvième session ciblant Israël – un nombre disproportionné si l’on considère que le CDH n’a tenu que 30 sessions de ce type depuis sa création en 2006.

Dans une déclaration faite au nom du Congrès juif mondial avant l’adoption de la résolution, le Dr Amichai Magen, maître de conférences à la Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy en Israël et membre du conseil d’administration du Israel Council on Foreign Relations, a exhorté le Conseil à condamner le Hamas et le Jihad islamique palestinien. “Toute autre position de ce Conseil est inadmissible et affaiblira la crédibilité de cet organe”, a déclaré M. Magen.

Lauder reacted to the passage of two recent anti-Israel resolutions by the World Health Organization’s Assembly and United Nations Human Rights Council, labeling them as “shameless” and declaring that they sully the reputation of the United Nations and the bodies that operate under its auspices.

In a statement following the back-to-back votes in Geneva last week, Amb. Lauder declared:

“Some UN member-states seem to believe that by exculpating Hamas and distorting the facts, they will gain cheap political points against Israel. The real losers, of course, are the Palestinians in Gaza, cynically held hostage by a terrorist organization that purports to speak in their name. Once again, truth has fallen victim to a shameless charade.

“For the countries advancing this agenda, lying is obviously no sin — no matter the consequences, and even if the reputation of the UN is once again sullied. We’ve all been down this road before.”

This vote in Geneva during a Special Session of the UN’s Human Rights Council centered on a one-sided resolution calling for the creation of a never-expiring Commission of Inquiry into the conflict and failed to mention Hamas even once throughout the document. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 24 yes, 9 no, with 14 abstentions. The Special Session is the ninth session targeting Israel — a disproportionately high number considering that the UNHRC has only held 30 such sessions since it was founded in 2006.

In a statement delivered on behalf of the World Jewish Congress prior to the adoption of the resolution, Dr. Amichai Magen, Senior Lecturer at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy in Israel and a Board Member of the Israel Council on Foreign Relations, urged the Council to condemn Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. “Any other position of this Council is unconscionable and will weaken the credibility of this body,” Magen stated.
